The term emotional intelligence began to emerge in the early 20th century, and psychologists and behavioral specialists were the main researchers in this area. Emotional intelligence refer to your emotional wellness which derives from the ability to recognize and understand your own emotions & emotions of others. When you have high levels of emotional intelligence, you have a strong understanding of what emotion is, its' purpose, and its reasoning.
Emotional intelligence allows you to be in total control of your managing and understanding one's emotions, which also focuses on your ability to critically think through your problems. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are critical parts of emotional intelligence and optimal emotional health. This form of intelligence basically shows how one interacts, views, and understands the world. It takes into account how feelings & emotions include skills such as impulse control, self-awareness, perseverance, enthusiasm, mental agility, etc.
Being emotionally intelligent affects your work performance, mental cognition, and concentration levels. Optimal wellness enhances your overall emotional intelligence, when you are feeling good you tend to think & react in positive ways. Emotional wellness pertains to self-regulation and social skills, as we age we tend to neglect the idea of improving our emotional skills which affect our attitudes towards others & personal problems.
Emotional intelligence benefits your mental, physical & spiritual health which affects your overall well-being. Personal development has a lot to do with mental and emotional wellness, emotions have purpose although we have been conditioned to discredit & ignore our emotions or feelings. Developing emotional intelligence and our personal development can also help us be more empathetic with others and ourselves.
