Rest vs Sleep
Why Are We So Exhausted?
Sleeping patterns are alike thought patterns, in order to produce positive results, one must train their brain to develop a routine. We often neglect the idea of actually resting because we assume that sleeping is enough to uphold a healthy lifestyle, but that is incorrect. Most people tend to feel more tired as they awake, due to not gaining a whole night's rest.
As you rest, the process of calming our mind & brain happens in order to relax for the moment, while still being attentive to ourselves, the environment & others. Resting is simply uncountable relief that allows us to suspend reality for that allotted time. On the other hand, sleeping is the actual process that allows the body, brain & internal organs to refuel themselves as we tune out reality.
While we sleep, the body is in a state of uncountable unconsciousness which is why most people can't fully hear or see when they are asleep. There are two main types of sleeping, most Americans are heavy sleepers which allows the body to fully block out noises, thoughts & environments. During sleep, the brain goes through certain stages to block out the environment and REM begins.
Resting is a huge part of preventive medicine, resting allows the body to recharge itself throughout our busy days & long nights.
How Sleep/Rest Benefits Us

Refuels the body, internal organs & heart
Decreases health risks, enhances overall immunity & strengthens the digestive tract
REM, also known as rapid eye movement occurs during the late sleeping stages which allows the eyes to move, but brain signals are suspended in order to maintain sleep. Resting is considered to be non-REM sleep which simply puts the body into a calm, relaxed state. Sleep and resting are critical parts of overall wellness.
Some people assume that when you feel tired, you immediately need to sleep but most likely, rest is needed more than actual sleep. Avoid triggers, foods, or sounds that can disturb your sleep or make it difficult for you to rest. Here are some ways that sleep affects the body, mind & heart...
